We are beyond excited to be offering these new teapots by Artisan Arturo Alvarez. The essence captured in Arturo’s work is very much what we believe in here at The Space Between Black and White— namely a devotion to, and ability to work with, different parts of the Earths offerings. From hand foraged clay at riverbeds in the Pacific Northwest, to foraged and or curated, hand carved wood handles — we have deep admiration for Arturos ability to acknowledge the importance of nature’s work, when it comes to the making of a good teapot. Seamlessly blending and bringing into form the process that was started by the trees that gave the gift of the handles for the pots, and the riverbeds that provide the clay, Arturo is able to bring the ethereal and timeless essence of nature into a tactile and tangible brewing experience. This 300ml kyusu is made with an mineral rich earthenware clay. The exterior and interior is completely unglazed. The teapot lid is measured and trimmed with great precision to ensure that it fits nice and tight. The built in strainer functions excellent with all teas. This is a great addition for any tea enthusiast. Your friends will surely marvel at this unique teapot.
A pot of this size will easily serve 2-3 small cups.
- When I am working on these unique teapots, I make sure that I do not create too much disconnection from what is seen in nature. I intentionally avoid covering up the qualities of the clay. I want the person holding or viewing my work to feel a strong re-connection to earth nature.
- Fired in an electric kiln to cone 5 (2118 - 2167 F)
- The piece of driftwood was found in the Eld inlet, Olympia WA. The wood is carved by hand with small chisels, burned, brushed with a metal wire brush, and then sanded. There is a soft texture to it that will stimulate many sensations. It is recommended to oil the wood once a month to preserve its integrity.
